Hi! My name is Bethany and I absolutely adore reading. Welcome to my blog and thanks for checking it out!


For as long as I can remember, I have always been an avid reader. However, this part of my life took a back seat for a number of years whilst I focused on school and university. 

But in 2017, I realised I missed reading too much. My New Year's resolution for that year was to read more books purely for fun (a.k.a., outside of my degree), and so I started this blog to document my progress. I started off with posting my own short stories and book reviews, and now I love to write discussion posts about what is going on in the industry as well. So, those are the types of posts you can expect to see from me!

I started reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children towards the beginning of June and expected it to be a nice, easy read for summer. I knew it was aimed at readers a bit younger than me but in my experience if the plot line is interesting then the style of writing shouldn't get in the way. I must say, I did really like the concept of the plot. The whole idea of children with unique abilities, hollowgasts, Ymbrynes (I hope I never have to say that word out loud for fear of embarrassment) and wights is something I haven't come across before. Yes, there are many stories of humans with supernatural powers but Riggs develops this idea in such a way that feels brand new. (Here is where I admit I have not read any Harry Potter books, which is probably why I feel this way). For that reason, I have chosen to gush about it in this blog post rather than writing my usual type of review. I invite all reveurs to join me. 1. THE WRITING Erin Morgenstern has said that her novels are 'fairy tales in one way or another' and she is absolutely right . BLOGMAS #5: Favourite Book I've Received as a Christmas Present

Title: Letters of Note Author: Shaun Usher I have asked for many books for Christmas over the years but the one that always stands out in my memory is 'Letters of Note' by Shaun Usher. Plus, the story behind it is quite cute, if I say so myself... (Unfortunately this photo isn't mine - it's from the Letters of Note website . I'm currently living away from home in Switzerland so I am sadly without my copy of the book. I'm sure it's sitting happily on my bookshelf above my bed as we speak.) Back in my sixth form days, I remember making the trip to Waterstones everyday on my way home after school. I mainly went just to escape the wet and cold of the December weather, but always ended up browsing through the young adult and fantasy sections.  I remember one day, Waterstones had a display table dedicated to 'Letters of Note'.
