BLOGMAS #6: Favourite Christmas Bakes
One of the things I look forward to the most every year is Christmas baking with my mum. We both love baking as a hobby so it's extra nice to be able to come home during the holidays and bake with my mama.
The bake that usually takes up most of our time, energy and phenomenally talented artistry is the family Christmas cake. We always make a traditional fruit cake (minus all the icky things I don't like, like nuts) and try to be creative with the way we decorate it.

As you can see, we went for a simple but Christmassy design, with some sparkle.
Last year, we pushed the boat out a little bit. I think we might have been inspired by a design we saw in BBC Goodfood, but I'm not entirely sure. Here is our 2017 cake:
If you can't tell (impossible, I know, but just in case), it's supposed to be a family of penguins playing in the snow and a frozen lake. See it now?
I had a lot of fun making this one. We used coloured icing to make the penguins, and then white icing to make the snowballs and frozen lake. We lightly painted the lake using light blue food colouring until we were happy with it. Then we used some glitter to try and make it look more ... 'cold'. The tree is not edible, it's from our Christmas village set we keep by the fireplace.
As I am on my year abroad this year, I can't come home until the 22nd of December. So my mum is going to have to bake the Christmas cake on her own this year, but hopefully we can cram as much Christmas baking as possible into those few short days before Christmas together!
